Uneasy lull in Rahimpur, one injured in bloody clash, security beefed up

A major clash has been reported from Rahimpur village under Kalamchaura police station in Sonamura subdivision on May 4, Saturday over opening of shops in the bordering Rahimpur market under Kalamchaura police station over opening of shops for the ‘Vaisakhi’ fair which has been going on over the past many years. Two persons belonging to ruling BJP including the BJP booth president Khurshed Alam sustained injuries in the clash.

Sources from Rahimpur said that the ‘Vaisakhi’ fair in Rahimpur has been continuing for many years with small businessmen and traders coming different parts of the state and opening shops there. The fair has already commenced and the committee had given permission for opening a shop in front of the shop of local businessman Shahjahan Mia. This led to a clash between Shahjahan Mia and the new shop-keeper but the BJP booth president Khurshed Alam intervened in the matter but finally there was a scuffle between Shahjahan Mia and Khurshed Alam. The situation had taken such a turn that Shahjahan Mia had stabbed Khurshed Alam and seriously injured him. Shahjahan Mia also sustained minor injuries .

Shortly after receiving information police personnel from Kalamchaura reached the spot and arrested Shahjahan Mia . The injured Khurshed Alam was sent to GBP hospital for better treatment. Mounting tension has been reported from the Rahimpur area.
