1464: Great  Manikya King Ratna  Manikya introduces coin.

1501: Dhanya  Manikya constructs Tripurasundari temple at Udaipur (Rangamati).

1513: Bengal Nawab Hussein Shah invades and occupies Tripura. Dhanya Manikya occupies Chitta gong. 

1528: Deba Mankya invades and occupies Sonargaon. Later Nawab reoccupies  it.

1530: Deba Manikya regains Sonargaon. 

1532: Bijoy Manikya II crowned as King.

1565: Ananta Manikya takes over from Bijoy Manikya.

1566-71: King Uday Manikya changes the name of Tripura's capital from  Rangamati to Udaipur.

1577: Amar Manikya succeeds Ananta Manikya. 

1581: Amar Manikya conquers  Sylhet in Eastern Bengal (present Bangladesh).

1586: Amar Manikya committs suicide.

1626: Kalyan Manikya takes over the reins of Manikya dynasty.

1660: Gobinda Manikya crowned new King of Tripura.

1661: Nakshatra Rai as Kshatra Manikya becomes new ruler of Tripura.

1675: Gobinda Manikya's grandson Ratna Manikya II becomes new King despite being in his teens.  

1676: Gobinda Manikya's son Ram Deb Manikya becomes new king.

1681: Mughals invade Tripura. Jashodhar Manikya defeated, captured and taken by force to Delhi’s Mughal court.

1693: Narendra Manikya conspires and dethrones Ratna Manikya II.

1712: Ratna Manikya murdered by Mahendra Manikya. 

1748: Shamser Ghazi invades and conquers Udaipur. King Krishna Moni or Krishna Manikya escapes.

1760: Krishna Manikya becomes king of Tripura again. 

1761: Tripura capital shifted from Udaypur to Puratan Agartala by Krishna Manikya.

1772: Chakla Roshanabad comes under the governance of East India Company.

1783: Maharani Jahnnavi Debi becomes Regent on behalf of minor Prince Rajdhar  after the death of king Krishna Manikya. 

1785: Rajdhar Manikya crowned new king of Tripura.  

1793: Under Permanent settlement system, Rajdhar Manikya gets back Chakla Roshanabad.

1809: Prince Durgamani Manikya becomes new King of Tripura.

1827: Kashi Chandra Manikya succeeds Durgamani Manikya. 

1830: Krishna Kishore Manikya succeeds Kashi Chandra.

1838: Capital shifted from Puratan Agartala to present Agartala by Krishna Kishore Manikya. 

1849: Ishan Chandra Manikya becomes  new King. Tripuri tribes rise in revolt. 

1860-61: Kuki revolt led by Rata Puiya against feudalism. 

1863: Reang and Jamatia tribal communities revolt against atrocities of Hazari and Waki Rai.

1870: Bir Chandra Manikya crowned new King of Tripura.

1871: AWB Pawar nominated Tripura's first political agent by British government. 

1890: Umakanta Academy set up to become the first High School of the kingdom. 

1894: Maharani Tulasibati Girls School established.

1896: Radha Kishore Manikya sets up Bir Chandra State Library after ascending  the throne in the same year.

1897:  A devastating earthquake strikes Agartala on June 12. The royal palace is also destroyed by the earthquake.

1900: Rabindra Nath Tagore arrives in Agartala at the invitation of Radha Kishore Manikya for the first time.

1905: First Bengali newspaper 'Arun' published from Tripura.

1909: King Radha Kishore dies in a car accident at Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh and  is succeeded by son Birendra Kishore Manikya as the new king.

1915: Birendra Kishore Manikya introduces Tripura Civil Service.

1919: Rabindra Nath Tagore arrives in Agartala for the second time.

1923: King Birendra Kishore passes away at the age of forty only and a Council  is formed to rule the state on behalf of minor Prince Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya .   

1928: Birendra Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya becomes new king of Tripura in January through formal coronation. State Bank of India starts operation in Tripura. 

1932:  Agartala - Udaipur Route launched. 

1939: Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya visits Shanti Niketan at the request of Rabindra Nath Tagore.

1939: Reang revolt led by Ratanmani Roaza against Royal and feudal system starts.

1941: 'Bharat Bhaskar' conferred upon Rabindra Nath Tagore by Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya.

May 17, 1947:  Death of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya at the age of 47.Council of Regency led by Kanchanprabha Devi formed. 

September 1947: MBB College starts functioning. 

August 13, 1947:  Kanchan-prabha Devi agrees to sign Instrument of  accession to join the union of India. 

1948: Golaghati farmers revolt against forced procurement of foodgrains by money-lenders.

January 12, 1948:  Council of Regency dissolved. Kanchan-prabha Devi  appointed sole Regent. 

September 9, 1949: Her Highness Maharani Kanchan-prabha Devi, Maharani Regent of Tripura, and C. Rajagopalachari, the Governor General of India, sign Tripura Merger Agreement. 

October 15, 1949: Tripura included in the territory of India. Government of India takes over the administration of the State. R K Ray, ICS, appointed as Chief Commissioner. 

January 26, 1950: Tripura included in the Constitution of Republic of India as 'C' category state with Chief Commissioner as official Head of the state.

November 5, 1951: First election of Agartala Municipal Council held. Sixteen Commissioners elected.

January, 1952: First General elections held in Tripura. Thirty members Electoral College formed to elect one Rajya Sabha member. 

April 03, 1952: CPI supported Rajya Sabha candiadte Arman Ali Munsi becomes Member of the Parliament (MP) from Tripura as its first MP in the Rajya Sabha. 

1952: Biren Dutta and Dasharath Deb elected Member of the Parliament (MP) in the Lok Sabha from CPI. 

1953: Advisory Council appointed to guide and advise Chief Commissioner by the President of India.

April 03, 1954: Congress candidate- Tampak Singh becomes MP as member of Rajya Sabha from Manipur.

April 03, 1956: Congress candidate Abdul Latif of Tripura becomes MP in Rajya Sabha.

November 1, 1956: Tripura declared Union territory of India. 

March, 1957: Second General elections held and 30 members Tripura Territorial Council formed.

1957: Bangshi Debbarman from Congress and Dasharath Deb from CPI elected as MP in Lok Sabha.

August 15, 1959: Tripura Territorial Council starts functioning with 30 elected members and two nominated members with Sachindra Lal Sinha as it's Chairman. 

February, 1962: Third General elections held to elect 30 members of Tripura Territorial Council.

April 03, 1962: Congress supported candidate for Rajya Sabha - Tarit Mohan Dasgupta becomes Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha.

1962: Biren dutta and Dasharath Deb elected Members of the Parliament from CPI once again.

24 June, 1963: Last session of the Tripura Territorial Council. 

July 1, 1963: Territorial Council turns into Tripura Legislative Assembly. Five member cabinet led by Chief Minister Sachndra Lal Sinha formed. 

22 April, 1964: Railhead reaches Dharmanagar in North Tripura.

1967: Fourth general elections held to elect 30 members of Tripura Legislative assembly. Six member ministries formed with Sachindra Lal Singha as chief minister. 

March 01, 1967: Second state legislative assembly of Tripura formed headed by Chief Minister Sachindra Lal Singh.

April 27, 1967: Triguna Sen becomes MP as member of Rajya Sabha.

1967: JK Choudhury and Former King of Tripura - Kirit Bikram Debbarma elected Members of the Parliament in Lok Sabha.

June 1967: Tripura Upajati Juba Samiti (TUJS), a tribal youth association, founded by tribal groups to protect and fight for their rights. 

April 03, 1968: Congress candidate Triguna Sen becomes member of Rajya Sabha once again. 

1970: Post of Chief Commissioner converted to Lieutenant Governor. AL Dias, IAS, first LG of Tripura. Government museum inaugurated. 

September 1, 1970: Tripura declared state from a single district. 

1971: President's rule imposed in Tripura. Biren Dutta and Dasharath Deb re-elected as Members of the Parliament in Lok Sabha, but from CPI (M). 

January 21, 1972: Tripura attains statehood under the North East areas (Reorgainsation) Act, 1972. B K Nehru appointed first designated Governor of Tripura after it attained statehood.

March 01, 1972: VP Singhal assumes charge as first Chief Secretary of Tripura.

March 20, 1972: Third state legislative assembly of Tripura formed, headed by Chief Minister Sukhomoy Sengupta.

September 17, 1972: Bengali-speaking immigrant settlers form Amra Bangali (We are Bengalis) to safeguard their interests.

September 22, 1973: LP Singh assumes charge as Governor of Tripura.

April 03, 1974: Birchandra Debbarma from CPI (M) becomes MP as Rajya Sabha member.

May 24, 1974: AIR starts Bengali evening news service from Agartala centre.

July 1, 1974: Kokborok news service starts from Agartala station of AIR. Sudhir Debbarma becomes the first news reader.

May 15, 1975: BS Raghavan assumes charge as second Chief Secretary of Tripura.

January 1, 1976: Tripura Board of Secondary Education formed.

February 04, 1977: TS Murty assumes charge as third Chief Secretary of Tripura.

April 1, 1977: Coalition ministry of CFD-CPM headed by Prafulla Das formed.

July 26, 1977: Another coalition ministry of Janata-CPM formed with Radhika Ranjan Gupta as chief minister.

1977: Biren Dutta from CPI (M) and Kirit Bikram Manikya Bahadur from Congress elected as members of the Parliament in Lok Sabha. The legendary Dasharath Deb gets defeated by the last monarch of Tripura in a democratic battle.

November 5, 1977: President's rule imposed.

December 31, 1977: Fourth assembly elections held.

January 5, 1978: Fourth state legislative assembly of Tripura formed. Left Front wins 56 seats.First non-Congress government of Tripura headed by Nripen Chakraborty as Chief Minister formed. TUJS wins 4 seats.

June 25, 1978: Agartala Municipal Council elections held. Victorious Left Front forms Council.

December, 1978: Tripura National Volunteers (TNV) founded under the leadership of Bijoy Hrangkhal to fight for a sovereign Tripura.

1979: Assembly passes bill for creation of TTAADC under fifth Schedule. 

April 03, 1980: Ila Bhattacharya becomes member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha from CPI (M).

May 06, 1980: SR Sankaran assumes charge as fourth Chief Secretary of Tripura.

1980: Ajay Biswas and Bajuban Riyan, both from CPI(M), elected as members of the Parliament in Lok Sabha.

June 6-7, 1980: More than 500 killed in armed clashes between tribals and Bengali-speaking settlers in Mandai, Amarpur and other places.

August 14, 1981: Syed Muzaffar Hussain Burney, (IAS), assumes charge as Governor of Tripura. 

January 3, 1982: Elections held for 28 members Tribal Autono-mous District Council.

January 28, 1982: Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council formed.

January 5, 1983: Fifth assembly elections held. Left Front wins 39 seats. Nripen Chakraborty elected Chief Minister for the second time.

1984: Ajay Biswas and Bajuban Riyan re-elected from CPI (M) as Members of the Parliament (MP) in the Lok Sabha.

April 30, 1984: RN Chakraborty assumes charge as fifth Chief Secretary of Tripura.

May 14, 1984: IP Gupta assumes charge as sixth Chief Secretary of Tripura.

June 14, 1984: General KV Krishna Rao, PUSM (Retd.) assumes charge as Governof of Tripura.

June 7, 1984: Panchayat elections held. Left Front wins majority of Panchayats. 

July 3, 1984: Agartala Municipal Council elections held. Left Front captures the Council.

August 23, 1984: Tripura Sixth Schedule Bill passed by Rajya Sabha.

December 24, 1984: Rajya Sabha elections held. Left Front candidates win both the seats.

January 27, 1985: Former Chief Minister of Tripura during CFD regime - Prafulla Kumar Das passes away.

February 8, 1985: ATPLO leader Binanda Jamatia murdered. 

April 1, 1985: Sixth Schedule implemented. 

June 30, 1985: Elections for TTAADC held under Sixth schedule.

July 19, 1985: First session of the TTAADC under 6th schedule comes off. 

December 24, 1985: Dr. AC Ray assumes charge as seventh Chief Secertary of Tripura.

May 3, 1986: Natural gas based thermal power station inaugurated at Baramura.

January 9, 1987: First feature film Longtarai based on the life styles of Reang tribes released.  

January 22, 1987: TNV banned under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, following involvement in a series of killings, extortion and other terrorist activities. 

November 2, 1987: Foundation stone for Tripura University laid. 

February 2, 1988: Sixth Tripura assembly elections held, Congress-TUJS coalition forms government headed by Chief Minister Sudhir Ranjan Majumder. 

5 February, 1988: Congress-TUJS coalition ministry formed under Sudhir Ranjan Majumder as chief minister. Sixteen ministers included in the   cabinet. 

February 10, 1988: Agartala Municipal Council dissolved. 

February 11, 1988: Ordinance issued to dissolve the Panchayats. 

February 18, 1988: National Security Act (NSA) comes into play. 

April 24, 1988: Fatikroy by election held. CPI (M) candidate withdraws nomination.

November 22, 1989: Ninth Rajya Sabha elections held in Tripura. 

July 1990:  All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) founded by a group of former TNV rebels led by Lalit Debbarma to establish a sovereign Tripura through armed struggle.

January 4, 1990: Railway line extended to Kumarghat. 

January 18, 1990: Governor Sultan Singh resigns as Governor. 

February 12, 1990: KV Raghunath Reddy assumes office of new Governor of Tripura. 

March 8, 1990: Devastating fire at the Trishna drill site. Fire controlled after eight days. 

July 8, 1990: Elections held for 28 members TTAADC. Left Front allege mass rigging and violence.

July 6, 1991: Students agitation over syllabus. One dead and several others injured in police firing.

October 10, 1991: Thirty minutes Bangla programme launched by Doordarshan Kendra, Agartala. 

October 23, 1991: Eighty eight armed youths nabbed at Chawmanu by the BSF Jawans. Fifty five countries made guns, six pistols recovered.

November 13, 1991: BJP candidate for by-election to Krishna Nagar assembly constituency in Agartala, Shyam Hari Sharma murdered in full view of people at night at Lal Bahadur Choumuhani. 

November 16, 1991:  By-poll to Krishna Nagar constituency postponed due to Shyam Hari Sharma's death. 

November 19, 1991: Kanchanpur declared 12th Sub division of the state.

December 20, 1991: Bill placed in Parliament to increase the number of seats reserved for tribals from 17 to 20 in Tripura legislative assembly. 

December 21, 1991: First full length feature film of Tripura,  'Rupantar' released in Rupasi cinema hall. 

February 17, 1992: Sudhir Ranjan Majumder resigns as chief minister as TUJS withdraw support. 

February 19, 1992: Samir Ranjan Barman takes over as new Chief Minister. 

April 03, 1992: Sudhir Ranjan Majumder from Congress becomes Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha. 

April 5, 1992: Five ATTF terrorists surrender before the Chief   Minster in the capital Agartala. 

May 8, 1992:  Three Bengali Fishermen killed by suspected ATTF extremists while travelling in a truck near river Khowai, Kakracharra about 15 km south of Teliamura. 

May 17, 1992: Agartala Bench of Guwahati High Court inaugurated. 

May 22, 1992: A gang of about 12/13 ATTF extremists attack Nepaltilla outpost under Fatikray police station of North Tripura District. The extremists take away three 303 rifles, Mark-4 and 13 rounds causing cut injuries to three constables of Tripura Police. 

May 31, 1992: Jana Ganatantrik Manch formed by the breakaway workers of CPI (M).

July 9, 1992: 15 ATTF terrorists surrender before Chief Minister Sudhir Ranjan Barman in Agartala along with a revolver, 13 country-made guns and several rounds of live cartridges.

October 9, 1992: ATTF terrorists kill four police personnel, injure five others and also loot 16 rifles and 600 rounds of ammunition in an attack on the Ganganagar police outpost in South Tripura district. 

October 10, 1992: At least 16 NLFT terrorists are killed and their camp destroyed during a police operation at Chakakucherra in the South Tripura district.

October 16, 1992: M Damodaran assumes charge as thirteenth Chief Secretary of Tripura. 

October 28, 1992: Kailashahar and Belonia stations of All India Radio inaugurated. 

November 3, 1992: Hawkers corner gutted in a devastating fire.

November 10, 1992: Police agitation rocks the state. 

November 23, 1992: The studio at the Doordarshan Kendra, Agartala starts operation. 

December 10, 1992: Agriculture Minister Nagendra Jamatia's escort party attacked near Kakracharra. One Nayak of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) dies one the spot and 4 employees of Agriculture department sustain injuries. 

December 18, 1992: Communist stalwart Biren Datta passes away. 

January 12, 1993: Governor issues notification for February 15 polls to constitute the seventh state assembly. 

February 12, 1993: Election postponed till April 3 for poor law and order situation. 

February 27, 1993: Congress-TUJS alliance government resigns. 

March 11, 1993: President's rule imposed in Tripura. 

April 10, 1993: 7th legislative assembly formed in Tripura. Third Left Front government sworn with Dasharath Deb as the Chief Minister.

July 8, 1993:  BSF water tanker attacked at Nalkata.

July 21, 1993: Four killed in a devastating flood after 48 hours of incessant rainfall. 

August 15, 1993: Ramesh Bhandari (IFS) sworn in as new Governor of Tripura. 

September 6, 1993: 739 ATTF militants surrender before Dashrath Deb at Shikaribari near Ambassa. 

September 20, 1993: NLFT extremists attack one District Armed Reserve (DAR) Police Post at Dhumacherra under Manu police station of Dhalai District. As a result seven D.A.R.Police personal die on the spot. 

October 2, 1993: BSF water carrying truck attacked by militants at Karamcherra near Nalkata once again within six months. As a result, two Jawans of BSF die on the spot and 4 Jawans sustain injuries. 

January 8, 1994: Fifth North East Conference on Literature begins at Rabindra Bhawan. 

January 20, 1994: Five tribal youths severely beaten up at Singarbil area, Kailashar. All five die on the spot. 

February 1, 1994: Maharajgunj bazaar gutted in yet another devastating fire.Altogether 429 shops destroyed. Losses estimated at Rs 3 crores.  

February 5, 1994: Altogether 77 Chakma families return home in Chittagong after eight years of refuge in Tripura. 

February 25, 1994: 12th Agartala Book Fair inaugurated. 

March 12, 1994: Eminent Manipuri writer Chandra Kumar Singh dies. 

March 16, 1994: CRPF special operations team ambushed at Krishna Kanta para on Lalcherra-Chhailengta road. One Constable of 32 Bn.CRPF receives bullet injury on his left shoulder and later dies in hospital. 

March 22, 1994: Kanailal Chakraborty, Vice chancellor, Tripura University resigns. 

April 9, 1994: Maharani Tulsibati School celebrates golden jubilee. 

April 18, 1994: Romesh Bhandari, Governor of Tripura, visits Bangladesh to better Indo-Bangladesh relationship. 

May 19, 1994: Kartik Kanya Debbarma, the first woman tribal minister of Tripura, resigns. 

May 30, 1994: First elections held under three tier Panchayati Raj system.

September 4, 1994: One civil passenger Jeep ambushed on Ambassa-Gandacherra road. As a result four passengers die on the spot. 

September 7, 1994: A group of ATTF extremists raid Poorba Colony village under Sidhai Police Station. Extremists fire indiscrim-inately. Four villagers die on spot. 

September 16, 1994: Four persons including an ONGC Officer killed at Gavardi under Takarjala Police Station.

July 28, 1995: Three policemen killed while returning with the ballot boxes after the ADC elections from Joyrampara under Jirania police station. The militants also snatch away their arms.

August 1, 1995: Seven villagers ruthlessly massacred at Maracherra village in North district.

January 19, 2006: Four NLFT collaborators engaged in extortion are arrested at Gourcharanpara under Teliamura police station in West Tripura district. 

February 14, 2006: Three employees of the Gas Authority of India Limited are shot dead in an ambush by cadres belonging to the Biswamohan Debbarma faction of the NLFT at Badaniapara in the West Tripura district. 

February 28, 2006: BSF personnel rescue a school headmaster, Ramcharan Debbarma, from the captivity of ATTF at a bordering village of Barchargharia under Khowai police station in the West Tripura district.  

April 2, 2006: Tripura Government decides to set up a new rehabilitation centre at Karam-cherra in Dhalai district to accommodate at least 217 surrendered militants, mostly belonging to the NLFT.  

May 10, 2006: A Bangladeshi infiltrator, arrested from the Jatrapur area of West Tripura district, escapes from police custody at Sonamura subdivisional court.

January 1, 2012: India's top woman gymnast Dipa Karmakar secured five medals including two Gold in the South Asian Gymnastics Championship in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This is for the first time in her career, Tripura's golden girl Dipa clinched medal from international arena.
