Agartala, Dec 01, 2012 : Finance Minister Badal Choudhury haas raked up a new controversy centering insurgent activities in the state stating that neighbouring Mizoram has been continuously extending support to the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT). He said that the insurgent outfit has been getting support from the neighbouring state to launch subservient activities ahead of the coming assembly elections. “Intelligence reports have proven that base of insurgency has been on the rise in Mizoram for quite some time”, the minister stated adding that the central government was duly informed about the issue.
Striking a major chord of controversy, the minister claimed that NLFT is trying to recreate the turbid times of 1988 with the active help of Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalthanhawla. However, he stated that people in distant rural hamlets of North Tripura district adjoining Mizoram like Damcherra and Khedacherra have stopped harbouring and helping insurgents.
