SCHOOL EDUCATION IN TRIPURA


According to the Sixth All India Education Survey conducted with reference as on 30th September, 1993, out of total 855 inhabited Census villages, there is 814 villages having schools with primary stage i.e. 95.2% census villages having schools with primary state. The detail district wise break-us is as follows: 

In spite of socio-economic backwardness of the people of Tripura, there has been a tremendous growth in School Educational facilities. The following table may give status of School Educational facilities in the state as on 20-06-2000.

Total number of student enrolment in all categories i.e. from primary to H.S. (10+2) stage was 7,21,071 out of which girls student were 3,34,483 (46.38%), SC 1,42,116 (19.71%) & ST 2,26,605 (31.43%), respectively, as on 20-06-2000. 

There were 36,456 teachers (by type-wise) out of which 10,682 were under Primary Schools, 8,637 in Sr. Basic Schools, 9,038 in High Schools & remaining 8,099 in H.S. (10+2) Schools.

The overall drop-out rate was 78.62% against All India overall drop-out rate of 69.42% for I-X stage school in 1997-98. The following table may give comparative idea on drop-out rates for I-X stage school in 1997-98: -

The total number of students appeared in Madhyamik examination in 1999 was 29,944, out of which 10,545 passed the examination. The total number of students appeared in H.S.(10+2) examination during 1999 was 13,941 out of which 6,592 passed successfully. The aforementioned developments in School Education have been feasible due to successful implementation of various incentive schemes, which are briefed as follows: -

i)

Students are exempted from paying tution fees at school level.

ii)

Nutritional support to Primary Education.

iii)

Book-grant, Dress-grant, Attendance scholarship, Pre-matric/Post-matric scholarship, Boarding houses stipend for ST/SC students, Girls stipend etc.

iv)

National scholarship at the Secondary stage, Merit-cum-means scholarship, Hindi, Sanskrit scholarship at the Secondary and Higher Secondary stages.

v)

Grant to the children for Class I to X of those who are engaged in unclean occupation.

vi)

Coaching facilities for ST/SC students of Classes IX to XII.

vii)

Re-imbursement of Board Examination Fees for ST/SC students.

viii)

Setting up of residential school for ST students.
