ACHIEVEMENT OF SCIENCE ,TECHNOLOGY & ENVIRONMENT,
GOVT. OF TRIPURA.DURING LAST FOUR YEARS

Department of Science, Technology &Environment is implementing various programmes broadly in following three sectors:

Ø      Science Promotion and Science Popularization,
Ø      Renewable Sources of Energy,
Ø      Ecology & Environment.

One State Remote Sensing Center has been set up at Vigyan Bhawan, Pandit Nehru Complex, Agartala. This center is providing facilities for analyzing the remote sensing data for exploitation of natural resources.

For promotion & use of various non-conventional energy devices, several beneficiary oriented schemes like providing of improved chulha, setting up of bio-gas plant, solar lantern, solar home and street lighting systems, solar cooker, solar hot water plant etc. are being implemented. Moreover, for providing better facilities to the beneficiaries one Aditya Solar Shop has been set up at Agartala.

In order to create/increase awareness on various aspects of renewable energy among the rural mass, one Renewable Energy Complex, first of its kind in the North-Eastern Region, has been set up at Sabroom with partial financial assistance from North-Eastern Council.

Construction of one 1 MW Biomass Gasifer Power Plant at Khetrichara,Dhalai District had been taken up. This will be the largest biomass gasifier power plant not only in North-Eastern Region but in the whole country.

In the Ecology & Environment sector the project for preparing Zoning Atlas for sitting of industries has been completed. Tripura is the first State in the country to complete the such project  for the entire State. Moreover, work is in progress for preparation of State of Environment report within a short period. With limited infrastructure and manpower, monitoring of ground water quality, surface water quality and air quality has also been undertaken.

To popularize Science and to create scientific attitude among the young generation, every year Science Fair, Science Seminar, Children Science Congress etc. are being organized.

In order to disseminate the knowledge of advancement of modern science and technology to rural youth for self-employment generation two Rural Technology Parks had been set up at Sabroom and Ambassa. Some more science and society related projects like mushroom cultivation; cultivation and preservation of medicinal plants etc. are also in the pipeline.

In order to harness the potential of BioTechnology for generation of bio products, process and technology in Agriculture, healthcare, environment and industrial sector as well as to generate skilled human resources recently a new Directorate of Bio-Technology Division has been created under the Deptt. of Science, Technology & Environment, Govt. of  Tripura.
