HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ACTIVITIES OF TRIPURA SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY IN SCIENCE POPULARISATION & SCIENCE PROMOTION DURING THE LAST YEARS.

A.SCIENCE POPULARIASTION

1.Each every year Sub-Division State level Science Fair,Student Science Seminar,Children Science Congress have been organized with tremendous enthusiasm

2.National Science Day, Hirosima Day,Mathematics day Engineer’s Day had been organized in different Nagar Panchayats wards of Agartala Municipal Council in a befitting manner to generate awareness on importance of these days.

3.350 Resources persons have been developed in the different field of Science Communication viz Origamy , Model Rocketry, Low Cost Teching Aids & Science Behind Journalism.

4.Ten groups of Science Communicators has been developed to communicate Science through Glove Puppetry.

5.Build Around the Global Health Assembly held in Dhaka,December 1-8 ,2000,National Health Assembly held at Kolkata November 30 to December-1,2000 Campaign Programme through out Tripura has been conducted.

6.With an aim to raise awarness build public resource for balanced development of NE Region a two days seminar on “ Science Self Reliance: Development of North East Region” had been organized at Agartala in collaboration with All India Peoples Science Network (AIPSN).

7.On the recommendation of the “Committee of Administrative Reforms” a new scheme “Meet the Scientist “ has been launched under the scheme eminent .Scientists Prof. Jash Pal,former Chairman of U.G.C. had visited the State.

8.With an aim to trigger interest about basic Science among students a campaign on Emergence of Modern Science has been launched

B.SCIENCE PROMOTION

Ø.Vermiculture Technology has been introduced in Hrishyamukh R.D.Block 30 Women micro-enterprises being developed through this venture.

Ø.A Spawan Production & Communuty Composting Center for white Button mushroom cultivation is being developed.

Ø.One Rural Technology Park ( RTP)has been developed at Kalacharra under Satchand R.D.Block,South Tripura.

Ø.A high power committee on Bio-Technology from Govt. of India visited the State and a good number of Bio-Technology Projects has been identified which are under preparation stage as follows:

i.PCR –based markers for diagnostics of Malaria.

ii.Immuno-modulatory properties of pineapple juice.

iii.Tissue Culture Facility.

iv.Production of Biofertiliser (Rhizobial)& Bio-control agents (NPU Trichogramma)

v.Gene conservatory of agri-horti-forestry species.

vi.PCR- based detection methods for Salmonella,Swine fever ,FMO Rota Virus.

vii.Use of embyo transfer technology for herd improvement of the Black Bengal goat.

viii.Cell- Culture –based vaccines for animals.

ix.Conservation of Fresh water Turtle( Tryonix sp)

x.Conservation of Cat fish.

xi.Semi-intensive prawn culture( Mocrobracheyee

Ø.A State level workshop on Medicinal Plants had been organized .A book on Medicinal Plants in Bengali had been published.

Ø.A medical Plant Garden has been developed at Kalacharra under Satchand Block.

Ø.A State Remote Sensing Centre had been set up at Vigyan Bhawan,Pandit Nehru Complex,Agartala.This Centre is providing facilities for analyzing the remote sensing data for exploitation of natural resource.
