
Tripura is one of the smallest states in the country, with a total area of only 10,492 kms. It is located in the extreme South-West corner of the North-Eastern Region. Tripura shares a border with Assam, Mizoram and Bangladesh. It is the second most populous state after Assam in the North-Eastern region, with a population density of 304 (2001 Census) per sq. km. The land in Tripura is marked by rich diversity. About 60% of the terrain is hilly and undulating. About 53% of the land are under actual forest cover. There are a number of rivers and streams, which drain into Bangladesh.The State has abundant reserves of sub soil water. The State receives an average rainfall of about 2100 mm per year. The climate is moderate. Tripura offers a pollution free, eco-friendly environment and a pleasant weather for the tourist.
