PREFACE
The inauguration of AGARTALA PRESS CLUB in January 1993 was the
culmination of a long drawanout process, symbolising fulfilment of a
long-cherished drream of the Press Cummunity. It was in the mid
sixties that the doyens of Tripura’s print mediaa initiated a move
to set up a Press Club at Agartala. This required allotment of a
suitable plot of Government alnd on lease and assistance in the
construction of building. The painstaking endeavour of leading
lights of Tripura’s print media met with success in 1983 as the then
Chief Minister Mr. Nripen Chakraborty responded positively to the
demands of the media by arranging for the construction of present
Press Club building on allotted Government land. The building was
handed over to the first elected Managing Committee of Agartala
Press Club on a ninety-nine year lease in the year 1984. The
responsibility for drafting the CONSTITUTION of the Club was vested
in a nominated 5 (five) member Preparatory Committee headed by Late
Amiya Deb Roy.
After the process of drafting the Constitution was was concluded,
election by secret ballot were held in 1984 and a Managing Committee
took over responsibility for running the Club in according with the
provision of this Constitution.
