Low demand in IT courses-admission

From IT City Bangalore

A decision has been taken by 12 Bangalore University affiliated city colleges to reduce the 1200 seats in BCA, and B.Sc (Comp) and to close these courses from this academic year due to the fact of low demand by students. In fact student admissions have drastically fallen in computer institutes in computer science and information science. This year. About 4000 engineering seats mostly in IT courses remained unfilled now. According to industry, this is a surprise that the students observed the down sizing in the past two years and dip in employment opportunities. According to the the university it may be that the software course demand is coming down since 2001 and admissions are so low in the IT courses that some aided institutions and private institutes are compelled to close the courses as these become financially unviable to continue.  Besides, the govt run engineering colleges increased their intakes in IT courses during high software markets in late nineties and the supply has become more than the demand which is absolutely normal according to economics.
