NB INSTITUTE FOR RURAL TECHNOLOGY (NBIRT)


Introduction : Tripura is a small state of the North Eastern Region. It is surrounded by Bangladesh from three sides. The state is connected with the main land through Assam –Agartala National highway. The State of Tripura has many problems. This is mainly due to its geographical location. The unemployment problem in the State of Tripura is also very acute. How ever, the State is very rich in human and natural resources. NB Institute for Rural Technology (NBIRT) a leading NGO of the State of Tripura was set up in the state with the objectives of proper utilization of natural and human resources of the state with input of Science and Technology.

            NB Institute for Rural Technology (NBIRT) was established in the state of Tripura as a registered society in the year 1989 and it is a non-profit making organisation. NBIRT has its registered office at Agartala. However, the main activity centre of NBIRT is located at Arkaneer, Sekerkote, West Tripura District. The Institute has sub centre at Lachi, Belonia, South Tripura. Its branch office is located at Bagma, South Tripura and Regional offices at Guwahati and Kolkata. The Institute has two Hostel in the following places – 

  • Hostel at Arkaneer, Tripura

  • Hostel at Baguihati, Kolkata – equipped with all modern facilities. 

            The Institute is basically funded by Science and Technology Department, Govt. of India, Department of Tribal Welfare and SC Welfare, Govt. of Tripura and various other Governmental and Non- Governmental Agencies. The Institute also gets donation from visitors. 

            The Institute has so far implemented a large number of programmes in the areas of Employment generation, Low cost housing, Science Popularisation, Use of Non-conventional energy sources, Conducting of vocational training for unemployed youths etc. The Institute is now known to the people of Tripura as friend, philosopher and guide of the unemployed youths of the state.
