NB INSTITUTE FOR RURAL TECHNOLOGY (NBIRT)

 

                                           Employment Generation Programme

The State of Tripura has acute unemployment problem particularly in the rural areas. It is in this context NBIRT launched and ambitious Programme to generate employment through Skill Development and Vocational Training. The Institute has been supported by Ministry of Science & Technology Govt. of India, the Tribal Welfare Deptt. Govt. of Tripura, SIDBI, NABARD etc. in respect of implementation of employment generation scheme. The Institute is implementing the following Programme related to employment generation.

 

·        Skill Development through Science and Technology (STST)

·        Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Programme.(STED)

·        Vocational Training for the unemployed youths.

 

Skill Development through Science & Technology (STST) is a Programme sponsored by Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. Under this Programme short training courses are organised by the Institute in different areas likes:

v     Tailoring and Fashion Technology.

v     Training on Servicing of Non-conventional Energy Equipment.

v     Repairing and Maintenance of Two & Three Wheelers.

v     Milk and Allied products Making.

v     Web Page Making.

v     Soft Toys Making.

v     Repairing and Maintenance of Power Tiller.

v     Ferro Cement based products making.

v     Candle and Agarbati Making.

v     Course on House wiring and servicing of electrical gadgets.

 

STST is a regular Programme of the Institute. During the period April 2004 to March 2006 NBIRT trained about 900 Nos. unemployed youths in different trades in the state of Tripura as well as in the state of Assam & Kolkata.

 

Unemployed youths trained in Assam Centre         :                200 Nos.

Unemployed youths trained in Kolkata                   :                  61 Nos.

Unemployed youths trained in Tripura Centre       :               639 Nos.

The trainees are generally selected through personal interview. Course duration is about 10-12 weeks. The Institute has full infrastructure for organising such type of training courses. The infrastructure includes spacious classroom, Computers, Fax machines, Internet Facilities and computer kiosk etc. In addition the Institute has full-fledged mechanical, Electrical and Food Processing workshop. All the Programmes are organised at the Institutes field office at ‘Arkaneer’, STED centre Bagma, Udaipur, South Tripura.
