NEW INITIATIVES
Training Cum Common Facilities Centre on Leather Products:
NBIRT in association with Deptt. of Welfare for Schedule Castes, Govt. of Tripura has proposed to setup one training cum common facilities centre for leather goods artisans of Tripura at A.D. Nagar, Agartala. The main objective of the centre shall be training of cobblers of Tripura on emerging areas of leather technology. This project includes –
Ø Construction of the training centre including design of the building.. Ø Installation of plants and machinaries for training as well as production of leather goods. Ø Conducting of one year certificate course. Ø Entrepreneurship Development programme for the trained artisans.
In this connection NBIRT has already entered in to some agreement with one leather goods manufacture of Kolkata and Agra.
Rural Technology Exhibition (Gramin Udyog – 2006):
NBIRT propose to organise one unique “Rural Technology Exhibition” Styled as “Gramin Udyog – 2006” at Arkaneer, Tripura for providing marketing facility for the trained peoples as well as rural artisans of villages. The said exhibition will have the following sections-
¨ Textiles ¨ Gift Items ¨ Leather goods. ¨ Food Items ¨ Soft Toys ¨ Handloom and Handicrafts goods ¨ Candle and Agarbati etc
Arka Barta:
The regular quarterly News Bulleting of NBIRT named as ‘Arka Barta’ is published by NB Institute for Rural Technology, Arkaneer, Sekerkote, West Tripura for information dissemination regarding the activities of NBIRT. The Arka Barta is circulated up to Block and Panchayat level.
Arka Scholarship:
To encourage the meritorious students of Tripura, NB Institute for Rural Technology(NBIRT), Arkaneer introduced few scholarship from the year 2004 onward. The duration of the scholarship is 18 months. The scholarship money has been provided by Wel-wishers of NBIRT. The scholarship is awarded to some meritorious school students through a competitive examination.
Arts & Cultural Programme:
Apart from the activities of promotion of science & technology NBIRT also encourage the other activities related to Arts & Culture programmes (Sit & Draw, Essay, Quiz Competition). Every year NBIRT observes its Foundation Day, World Environment Day, National Science Day, Energy Conservation Day etc through befitting programmes.

Participation of NBIRT in various National Events
¨ Sri Surajit Kumar Saha and Sri Anup Dey of NBIRT participated in the “Advisory Committee Meeting under STED project officers” Organised by Science and Technology Department, Govt. of India at Guwahati on 13th May’2004.
¨ Sri Surajit Kumar Saha project In-charge, STED Programme participated in the Review come monitory workshop for the STED Project on 20 – 21 November’2004 and training programme on project appraisal and Entrepreneur Assessment at EDI, Ahmedabad on 22-27 November’2004.
¨ Sri H.G.Mondal, project Engineer of West Tripura Building Centre participated in the workshop on structural application of bamboo and bamboo based composites at Kohima from 25th Feb. to 2nd March’ 2005.
¨ Sri Kapil Baran Bhowmik, Hony. Vice- President, NBIRT and Sri Sushil Choudhuiry, Master Craftsman, NBIRT participated in the training programme on bamboo mat fibre in RV-TIFAC, Bangalore on 15-16 March’2005
¨ Sri Pradip Sutradhar, Master Craftsman, NBIRT participated in the training programme on use of bamboo as a construction materials in IIT, Delhi from 21st March to 1st April’2005 under the sponsored programme of HUDCO, New Delhi.
¨ Sri Susanta Karmakar, Project Manager of WTBC participated in Training of Trainers (TOT) for Engineers and Project Managers of Building Centres at IIT, New Delhi from 28th March to 1st April’2005. Programme was sponsored by HSMI, New Delhi.
¨ Sri Anup Dey, Programme Officer, NBIRT, participated in the workshop on ‘Dissemination of Information’ on Govt. of India sponsored scheme on VAMBAY at Guwahati in the month of October’2005.
¨ Workshop on Capacity Building in Rural Development at Tripura University, from 26-30 December’2005. Sri Anup Dey, Programme Officer, NBIRT participated in the workshop.
¨ Sri Surajit Kumar Saha, project In-charge, STED, South Tripura participated in the meeting of the Expert Advisory Committee on Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Project (Review Meeting) at SEEHURD, Bhubaneswar, Orissa on 30th & 31st January’2006. Representative from Assam Centre of NBIRT also participated in the Bhubaneswar meeting and made presentation on STED programme of Assam.
Workshop / Seminar/ / Exhibition organised by NBIRT
¨ “Rural Technology Exhibition – 2005” specially for food items was held on 25th December to 27th December’2005 at Arkaneer Complex, Tripura to create a marketing facility of artisans of NBIRT as well as other women artisans of villages.
¨ Workshop / Meeting of Advisory Committee on Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDP’s) Technology Based Entrepreneurship Programme (TEDP) was organised by NBIRT at Kurseong from 12th – 14th May’2006. Sr. Officials from DST, Govt. of India and other Institutions participated in the programme.
¨ Workshop on Kyoto Protocol and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project formulation was held on 14th August’2006 at Secretariat Building, Agartala. The programme was organised by NBIRT in association with Forest Department, Govt. of Tripura.
