Training Programme Health Care programme of NBIRT:
Health Department, Govt. of Tripura has provided a Mobile Surgical Van to NB Institute for Rural technology (NBIRT) for extending health care Services in the Rural Tripura with special reference to the Tribal areas of Tripura. The main objective of running of Mobile Surgical Van is to provide minimum health care services to the people of Tripura residing in remote location while doing so health education programme would also be taken up by the Institute. In this context, Institute has inaugurated the Mobile Surgical Van through a health camp at Bagma, South Tripura on 20th September’2004. Senior Doctors from Kolkata and Agartala were present in the inaugural function and also treated the patients under Bagma Panchayat. The Inauguration of the Mobile Surgical Unit was done by Sri Madhab Saha, Local MLA in presence of Sabhadhipati, South Tripura District. Others health camp has been organised in the following locations – a) Konaban, West Tripura b) Bikramnagar Gram Panchayat,West Tripura c) Champamura, Gram Panchayat,West Tripura d) Matinagar, Gram Panchayat,West Tripura e) Arkaneer, Sekerkote, West Tripura f) Chandan Nagar,Bishalgarh, West Tripura g) Gopinagar Gram Panchayat,West Tripura h) Purba Gakulnagar, Bishalgarh
About 1000 patients were treated by the NBIRT so far through the Mobile Health Centre. Eight Specialist Doctors participated in different health camps.
Recently NB institute for Rural Technology in association with Department of Health, Govt. of Tripura organised Health Awareness Camp toward health seeking behavior in general and HIV / AIDS in particular. Entire programme was demonstrated through POSTERS and others leaflet, short write up. So far five awareness camps were conducted at following places with the Physician and Lady Demonstrator.

Report on Assam Centre of NBIRT
Assam Centre of NBIRT is functioning now from Guwahati Office. The centre has its own office at Rajgarh, Guahati. The State of Assam has acute unemployment problem particularly in the remote areas. It is in this context NBIRT Assam Centre launched the various programmes to generate employment through skill development and training. The Assam Centre of the Institute has also been supported by Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India in respect of implementation of employment generation scheme. The Institute is implementing two programme related to employment generation - ¨ Skill Development through Science and Technology (STST) ¨ Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Programme (STED)
The Centre has already started various developmental activities including vocational training from the year 2003-2004. The following short term training courses were organised by the NBIRT Assam Centre under the STST programme, Sponsored by DST, Govt. of India.
¨ Two & Three Wheelers Repairing and Servicing. ¨ Electrical Wiring. ¨ Electronics (B/W & Colour TV Service) Repair. ¨ Making & Repair of Battery. ¨ Motor & Pump Repairing.
STST is a regular programme of the centre of the Institute. During the last financial year Assam Centre of NBIRT trained about 46 unemployed youths in the following sectors.
v Servicing of two and three wheelers. v Electrical Wiring. v TV Repairing and Servicing.
Duration of the each programme is about 10 – 12 weeks. The Institute has full infrastructure for organizing such type of training courses.
Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development cell at Marigaon District of Assam (STED):
The Assam centre of NBIRT has set up a STED unit at Jagiroad under Marigaon District of Assam. During the month of May’2005 the Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India sanctioned establishment of a Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Project (STED) in Marigaon District in Assam. The Project is being implemented by the Assam Centre of NBIRT in collaboration with Jagiroad College, Jagiroad, Marigaon District. The project was inaugurated on 29th July’2005. The following Entrepreneurship development training programmes have been conducted under this programme so far-
¨ Fruits and vegetables processing ¨ Advance Beauty Treatment ¨ Making and Repair of Battery. ¨ Making of Modern Dresses for Women.
In total 155 Nos. trainees were trained in the above trades. Under the STED Programme the Institute has established more than 45 units in the different places of Assam. Total duration of the project is 48 months. During the year linkages have been established with Govt. Agencies, DRDA, District Administration, KVIC, Zilla Parishad, IIE, NEDFI and SISI of Marigaon District. The STED Marigaon has also conducted three EACs during last year.
Report on Kolkata Centre of NBIRT
NBIRT has set up an office at Madurdaha, Kolkata, West Bengal to co-ordinate various project works of the Institute. The Institute organised a training programme on Packaging Technology for 17 Nos. entrepreneur in collaboration with Indian Institute of Packaging Technology in Kolkata with the financial assistance of Govt. of Tripura
NBIRT also organised a skill upgradation-training programme on leather technology for 10 Nos. artisans of Tripura at Kolkata. The Institute organised three days long National Training Programme on Solar Photovoltaic Business Opportunities at Energy Education Park of Kolkata from 19th June 2004 to 21st June 2004 with the financial help of Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India.
In order to take up a Solar Photovoltaic Project in East Timor the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) decided to train Mr. Paulo da Silva a Mechanical Engineer of East Timor on Solar Photovoltaic System for seven weeks on Solar Photovoltaic which includes assembling, Installation, Commissioning and maintenance of Solar Photovoltaic Devices. In this connection a request was received by NBIRT from Mr. Mohan Peck of UNDESA. On the basis of the request NBIRT organised the above training programme for Mr. Paulo da Silva at Kolkata Office of NBIRT from 25th March’2006 to 14th May’2006.
Co-ordinated project on Renewable Energy:
In order to launch a co-ordinated project on Renewable Energy under the Science and Society Division of DST, Govt. of India, NBIRT, Kolkata office organised a Brain Storming session at ITC, Sonar Bangla Hotel, Kolkata on 16-07-2005. Sri R. Saha Advisor and Head of Science Society Division of DST, Govt. of India presided over the session. A group of experts in the field of Renewable Energy also participated in the Brain Storming Session. In total eleven groups from different parts of the country took active part in the Brain Storming Session. Later all the groups formulated the Renewable Energy Project proposal with the assistance of NBIRT and submitted the same to DST, Govt. of India.
