It’s the right time to take the benefit of new technology by
using local materials in road engineering in Tripura for making
economic and more durable roads and a time to run your vehicles
over the Jute made Road and for enjoying a smooth drive
for a
long period. Times are right because plenty of infrastructure
development projects are ongoing and some are waiting, not only
in Tripura but the entire Northeast India specially.
In this perspective one research project have been undergoing in
Agartala –Mohanpur-Chebri road (54 Km) in a small stretch of 200
m near Rangacherra where Geo-Jute layers have been laid in
different interfaces of the pavement and in different
combinations of Geo-Jute for making a comparative study of the
Effects of applied Geo-Jute. This is the First Field application
of Geo-Jute in Tripura and the research have been taken Care of
by Prof S. Chakraborty, Section Head, Soil Mechanics and
Foundation Engg, Jadavpur University in association with Er. M.
K. Deb, Consulting Engineer, A B Consultant of Agartala. The
earlier Laboratory experiments by the eminent research
Institutes in India and abroad already reveals the fact that
application of Geo-Jute improves the load bearing capacity of
the pavement and the soil beneath even after decaying of
Geo-Jute and continued for a long time with nearly no undulation
over the road resulting a smooth road. The results also reveal
that the thickness will be lesser if Geo-Jute is used which will
give us an economic, strong and durable road.
At Present Several Field research have been going on by Indian
Road Congress along with Central Road Research Institute , New
Delhi, , Jute Manufacturers Development Council (S) , National
Rural Road Development Agency (I) in Ten roads in India
in the
state of West Bengal, Orissa, Chattishgarh , Assam and Madhya
Pradesh.
In Tripura this is the First live research project initiated
fully by any Private R & D Organisation in the same line of
concept lying in those mentioned field research. The results are
expected to come out within a period of Six month.
The positive impacts of this research will give Tripura the
following added benefits:-
1.As the thickness of pavement will be lesser, uses of
brick/Stone Aggregates will be less resulting reduction of
material crisis in the state as well as more economic road.
2.Opening a huge market for Jute Industry of Tripura, the Jute
can be supplied to all North Eastern States and other part of
India for this specific purpose.
3.Recurring cost of roads will be less because rutting of
pavement as well as formation of pot holes will be less.
Definitely this research will come out with a positive results
very shortly and will show the way of reducing the cost of
pavement in road in Tripura and North East as well as will put
contribution in India as a whole.
