Name –Subrata Kumar Dash, Topper in the TCS Gr II Examination,
2007
Place of birth –Teliamura, West Tripura
Date of Birth -12th June 1979.
Educational Qualifications-M. Phil (English)
Question: Being a topper in the TCS & TPS Gr II examination,
2007 is a fantastic achievement. How could you achieve this, I
mean, what was the secret of your success?
Answer: Thank you. I owe my success to God’s blessings, my
parent’s support, personal efforts, and a bit of luck. I would
also like to thank Abhijit sir of School of Science whose
guidance helped me a lot during the interview. My intention from
beginning was to either take an administrative job or join the
academic line. For the written exams my preparation was based
solely on self study. I had picked Sociology (I&II) and History
(I) as my optional as I enjoy reading them. I would say that
what I had studied during my academic life made the preparations
for the TCS exams somewhat less tough. Although I have been a
student of English literature, I deliberately did not choose the
subjects as there were already three compulsory papers dealing
with English and I wanted to avoid monotony.
Question: Would you let us know a little bit about your early
school life with special reference to your academic record? This
may be inspiring to students of Tripura.
Answer: I did my schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kunjaban .
Although I studied Science in my Higher Secondary, I switch over
to Arts in the college. I felt my aptitude was for subjects in
the Humanities discipline. I did my BA from Fakir Mohan College,
Balasore (English Honours, first division with distinction) in
2000 and MA in the same subject from Utkal University,
Bhubaneshwar (first division) in 2002. I also completed my M.
Phil (first division) from the same institution in 2005. I have
also done a post graduate diploma course in the mass
communication and journalism from IGNOU.
Question: With your achievement in TCS examinations, what would
be your next target in administration and what prompted you to
go for that particular field?
Answer: Definitely, my priorities will be to discharge the
duties entrusted upon me to the best of my abilities.
Administrative jobs are always attractive not only because they
carry prestige, but also provide you with the opportunity to
serve the public and play a role in the development of one’s
state.
Question: What specific contributions can you make after joining
the administration for the cause of Tripura people from the post
you will hold?
Answer: As we all know, in the administrative set up every post
has its own functions and responsibilities. So I will try to
perform whatever is given to me faithfully and efficiently. And
that also means properly implementing the programmes of the
government and bringing to the notice of my superiors the
demands and problems of the people.
Question: What is your view of Tripura? How do you think can the
state develop in spite of the constraints of geographical
isolation from the mainstream and lack of resources and
infrastructures?
Answer: I think Tripura is rich in history and culture. Its
social indicators such as literacy, birth rate, sex ratio,
infant mortality rate are better than most of the big states.
Economically, it is facing problems because of the handicaps you
just mentioned. But I am optimistic about the future. The train
line is coming up and this will go a long way in connecting the
state. Moreover, the state is rich in forest and mineral
resources like natural gas. I believe that Tripura being the
second most populous state in the North East can play an
important role in the development of the region.
Question: Being a topper in the TCS examination, 2007 what is
your suggestion to the school students and unemployed youths of
Tripura? How should the students and unemployed youths of the
state prepare for their best results in competitive exams?
Answer: I follow the motto “strive and thrive”. Work hard, do
not lose hope, and you will definitely reap what has been sown.
There is no any dearth of job opportunities for the educated
youth if they try to look beyond government jobs. As far as
competitive exams are concerned, with specific reference to TCS,
I suggest them to develop writing skills in English, pick
optional subjects that they will enjoy studying and pick up bits
and pieces of information through a wide and varied reading.
