BORDER(IBB) FENCING & PMGSY PROJECTS IN
National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (A Government of India Enterprise) (NBCC Limited), under the aegis of Ministry of Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation, Govt. of India, is a premier Civil Construction Company engaged in Construction of large scale Civil Engineering Projects of varied nature like Cooling Towers, TV Towers, Flyovers, Bridges, Airports, Buildings, Jetties, Highways, Transmission Lines etc. NBCC Limited is presently executing mega projects for Ministry of Defence, Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Home Affairs, & Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India. Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Pak Border Fencing are such mega projects under the Ministry of Home Affairs, undertaken by NBCC in Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Assam & Gujarat States. In addition, NBCC is also undertaking the PMGSY Works in Tripura & Bihar States under the Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India.
INDO-BANGLADESH BORDER (IBB) FENCING PROJECTS IN TRIPURA, MEGHALAYA, MIZORAM & ASSAM STATES.
FINANCE : International Border Fencing Projects are fully financed by Govt. of India (GoI).
LAND : Land for construction is to be acquired by the respective State Governments and is to be made available to the executing agency without any encumbrances. Land acquisition cost is to be fully brone by the GoI through the executing agency.
ALIGNMENT : Alignment of Fencing is jointly finalized by representatives of State Government, Border Security Force (BSF) and the executing agency.
PMGSY ROAD PROJECT :The PMGSY was conceived with a view to 'Achieving all - weather road access to every village/habitation' under the Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India.
FINANCE :Construction cost of road is to be borne by Govt. of India & the maintenance cost to be borne by State Government.
LAND : Land for construction of road is to be provided by State Government. ALIGNMENT : Alignment of road is jointly finalized by State PWD & NBCC.
PROGRESS STATUS :
A. BORDER
FENCE : The targets of NBCC Limited for the year 2005-06 is to construct 161 Kms. of Fence & 270 Kms of Road.NBCC has been able to construct 307 Kms. of Fence & 168 Kms. of Road as on date and is confident of completing the targets given to it of 161 Kms. of Fence & 270 Kms. of Road during this financial year.
B. PMGSY ROAD : NBCC has entered into MoU with the Ministry of Rural Development for the Construction of 1158 Kms. of Road under PMGSY project in Tripura State. Targets of NBCC Ltd. for the year 2005-06 is to construct 389 Kms. of Road. NBCC has been able to construct 81 Kms. of Road as on date and is confident of completing the targets given to it of 389 Kms.during this financial year.
PUBLIC OPINION : The stretches of Border Fence recently completed are in Western, Northern & Eastern Sectors of Tripura State. The people living along these stretches have started to realize the benefit of IBB Fencing. There is a feeling among the population that their cattle & other belongings are now much safer than earlier because of erection of fencing. |
Construction of
IBB Fencing is one of the steps undertaken by the State & Central
Governments to check cross border terrorism, smuggling and anti-social
elements. Some salient features of the projects are as given under :-
NBCC has been entrusted with the Construction work of 515 Kms. of Border
Fence & 455 Kms.of Road in Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram & Assam State.
