Bir Bikram collage is the oldest college of Tripura founded in the
name of most able Maharaja of this state BirBikram Kishor Manikya
Bahadur in the year 1948. This college is situated at agartala over
a hillock with a huge plain area one side of this hillock ended in a
vast lake. With this surrounding green this lake brings a
picturesque view of this place. In this site of hillock there is a
natural pit with - a big plain land at the bottom. Through this
piece of plain land was not fit for any game.
In the year 1993 actual thinking started for real development
of this place. Next year sports department undertook work to build
up a natural stadium in this place. Entire ground was surrounded by
mud hillock in three sides and in one side it was lake. After
leveling the ground and arrangement of drainage near about 40 Las of
rupees was spend in the primary phase. In a record time of only
seven months the work was complete.
In the year 1997 Tripura Cricket Association came forward
with a proposal to the lease of this stadium. State government
welcomed this proposal and sanctioned the lease of the MBB Stadium
for twenty years. With understanding that TCA will build up
infrastructure for hosting International Cricket matches in this
stadium, TCA brought this matter to Board of control for Cricket in
India. For the development of the cricket in the state, BCCI
sanctioned an aid of Rs. Two crores for TCA. Just after two years of
the lease agreement TCA undertook the work of the construction of
club house and pavilion of the cricket stadium. On 29th
February 2000 Chief Minister of Tripura laid the stone of the
pavilion and club house. TCA started the work with an estimated cost
of Rs. Two crores. At present almost the work has been completed.
This pavilion provided most modern facilities for the players and
media parsons.
Apart from this pavilion TCA has a plan to construct boundary
wall and Indoors games practice hall with a gymnasium of the
stadium, which is likely to be completed by this year. With in the
four years after taking the lease of the stadium TCA hosting first
class cricket matches like Deodhar Trophy and Daleep Trophy. Where
almost all top class cricketers of Indian team participated, the
green top field, view of the lake and natural beauty impressed them
very mach. According to them after completion it will be the only
place of India where joy of cricket can be shared with nature – in
top class cricket, which is very unparalleled. |
