If
we divide the whole year into main two part, one part will be full
of different types of competition i.e. from October to March &
another part April to September will be of preparatory period. Here
we have seen that maximum players are very much serious & active
during the competition period but very much reluctant during the
preparatory period which is off season to them. Although there
should not be any off season period for the players. Rather off
season period must be the valuable training period for achieving any
goal to a player.
In
our country we have seen the various cricket players those who are
collecting the various types lapse of their strokes etc. during the
matches & training to rectify the wrong strokes & bowling
style during the off season period. So the post competition period
must be utilized for looking back taking stock , planning &
preparing for the season ahead.
The
following points may be taken into consideration for achieving
results for the (Table Tennis) players of our state. First of all, a
player should try to analyse his performance of the just completed
season without any confusion with his Coach or senior players or
practice partner and should also examine the level up to which the
players have been succeeded to implement the performance.
Secondly
the player should consider his/her strength & stamina etc. The
player may not be able to justify his/her own strength& stamina
regarding the style of practice. So a good coach or a senior player
can help him or he can seek advice from them. Of course the guide
should watch his/ her matches of the completed season & aware
about his/her performances. Since many players do not have such type
of guide/coach/senior player, they can accept the proposals of their
practice partner, who are able to make critical assessment regarding
the strength/ style & stamina.
Last
of all the player should fix the goals for the season ahead keeping
in mind that it is not easily achievable. He/she should rigid, stiff
& challenging for that.
Here
I would like to say that the player should plan for better
performance & he/she will need regular practice partner or a
senior i.e. training partner. It helps in a variety of ways, from
relieving the load & tedium of long work-outlets to offering
competition & providing motivation.
Since
Table Tennis is a skill game, preparatory training period should not
be any how without any table. Particularly students are keeping them
aside from table months together during their examination period
which is not advisable & it is practically hampering their
physical & mental condition. So the students are requested to
study throughout the year so that they can be well prepared for the
exams and can avoid the stress & strain of hectic & last
minute mugging.
A
player who stops playing and training completely will have to start
from zero while returning to good Table Tennis. At least thirty
percent of practice & training programme should be maintained at
the time of their normal examination also to prevent from their
performance sliding towards the bottom position (zero). Even maximum
ranked players are in irregular practice in our state. They utilize
the camps 7 pre-state championship period to become physically fit 7
try for better performances which practically impossible.
So
players should keep three specific points in mind while planning for
preparatory period training.
1.
Physical fitness: Here they should try to improve their
strength, endurance, power, speed & flexibility etc.
2.
Playing Technique: Here they should concentrate on movement,
footwork & proper execution of strokes etc.
Roughly
they should work for 50 to 60 percent on fitness level and about 40
percent on the game or technical soundness for better result.
Remember
that all the areas can not be developed at a time. So concentrate
one or two aspects at a time & analyse the progress made every
week or 10 days. If possible maintain a diary & note down the
training schedules, goals etc. and analyse the progress after a
certain couple of days. This timely maintaining of diary will remind
the players for their targets.
The
progress will never come in one day. It requires regular &
continuous effort. So miracles overnight should not be the
expectation of anyone.
Finally
the importance of mental fitness or strength should be honored.
Think in terms of the positive aspects of your game, approach &
achievements rather than weakness & failure. Have full faith in
your ability. Say, you can and don’t say, you can’t.
