A brilliant maiden century by Timir Chanda and 46 runs from Chetan Sachdev set Tripura in a good position against Goa in the first day of four-day Ranji Trophy ´Plate´ group match at the Rajendra Prashad ground, Goa, yesterday.
The total score of Tripura stands at 241 runs for 6 wickets.
Elected to bat, host Tripura were in trouble in the first season, losing their opening pair of Sourav Dasgupta (00) and in form batsman Ritesh Joyswal (02) with the score reading seven for two.
After then, a sparkling century by Timir Chanda (134) studded with 16 fours and two sixes and his 150 runs fourth wicket partnership with Chetan enabled Tripura to pile up 241 for six in 91overs. His 134 came in 233 balls in 261 minutes. He also completed his maiden century in 184 balls in 200 minutes.
After Timir´s exit, Tripura lost Chetan Sachdev (46) and Gourpaea Banik (01) quickly when the score read 229 for 6.
At the close of play, Abdul Sattar (08) and Rajib Datta (08) remained not out.
Medium Pacer Sandip was the most successful bowler from the side of Goa claiming three wickets conceding 36 runs.
