Serious Allegations of Neglect and Poor Facilities at Saltlake Tripura Bhawan Raise Concerns Among Visitors

Fresh concerns have emerged over the deteriorating condition and alleged mismanagement at Tripura Bhawan, a key government accommodation facility frequently used by residents of Tripura visiting Kolkata for medical treatment and other essential purposes.

According to accounts shared by visitors and staff members, the building has been steadily declining over the years. Individuals who have stayed there multiple times report witnessing a gradual structural deterioration, with the current state described as skeletal, indicating severe neglect in maintenance and upkeep.

One of the most pressing complaints revolves around the canteen services. Visitors allege that the quality of food is extremely poor, to the extent that a significant portion, reportedly around 80 percent is often discarded by guests. Despite this, there appears to be no effort to improve standards. Many have questioned whether a marginal increase in pricing could ensure better quality meals, especially considering that patients and their families, many from Tripura, depend heavily on this facility during medical visits. With no nearby restaurants available, guests are left with little choice but to rely on the canteen.

Concerns have also been raised regarding staffing patterns. Despite being a Tripura government facility, it is alleged that a majority of employees are not from Tripura.

Further, complaints about the grievance redressal system suggest a lack of accountability. Guests claim that raising issues often results in being redirected without resolution, and that senior officials are difficult to access. The administrative leadership has also come under criticism, with allegations that oversight is minimal and responsibilities are not being effectively carried out.
