Modi’s Silence, Yunus’s Ascent: How Cowardice Enabled Cultural Collapse!!!

In an era when leadership demands not just words but spine, Narendra Modi’s cowardice has handed Muhammad Yunus the reins to Bangladesh’s cultural demise. What the world is witnessing is not merely a case of indifference but an act of betrayal—a leader paralysed by fear, watching as Yunus, with every unabashed concession to religious hardliners, tears apart the secular fabric painstakingly woven by generations.
Under Yunus, Bangladesh’s “interim” government has become a wrecking ball, obliterating music and physical education from classrooms, not for lack of funds or vision, but because a clutch of regressive clerics barked orders and the government—spineless to the core—obeyed without protest. Modi, the so-called champion of Indian interests and regional guardian, has not even managed a whimper. Every day his silence grows, it fertilises the weeds of fanaticism taking root across the border.
Let us say this without mincing words: Modi’s inaction is the scaffolding upon which Yunus’s power has grown from strength to strength. The Islamist forces that once cowered before Sheikh Hasina now run wild, emboldened by the vacuum of resistance from India. They vandalise statues, terrorise minorities, and dictate school curricula with the arrogance of victors. Bangladesh’s secular soul bleeds, while India’s “lion” turns away, sheepishly, hoping not to ruffle feathers.
Had Indira Gandhi—the true Iron Man of India—sat in South Block, Yunus would not have dared. The historical record is clear: she wielded the iron fist when the subcontinent’s pluralism was threatened. Under her, appeasement was not an option, and cultural retreat was met with sharp rebuke. Today, in stark contrast, India’s leadership has become a feeble spectator, abandoning friends and values at the altar of political expedience.
Where was Modi’s outrage as Yunus capitulated to Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam, erasing “atheistic philosophies” and artistic expression from the hearts and minds of Bangladeshi children? Where was his resolve as secular foundations were bulldozed by a mob intoxicated with religious zeal?
This is not strategic patience; this is abject dereliction of duty. Every day Modi remains silent, he signals to extremists across South Asia that threats triumph and intimidation pays dividends. By refusing to confront Yunus’s descent, he has not just forsaken Bangladesh’s secularists—he has betrayed India’s own legacy.
Yunus’s ascent is not just a Bangladeshi tragedy; it is a regional warning siren, howling the consequences of cowardice. India, under Modi, has allowed its roar to fade into a bleating surrender, leaving the field open for those who shun music, despise dance, and fear the liberating power of education and culture.
This is the price of silence. This is the cost of cowardice. And history will remember not just those who destroyed, but those who stood by and let it happen.
