MID AIR SCARE of AI-2379 FLIGHT
Capt. B Parthosarothy, Kolkata.
August 12, 2026
Capt. B. Parthosarothy (Pilot & Environmentalist) is a regular reader of Tripurainfo.com following the Latest development related to Air India Flight from Phuket to Delhi . Serious incident occurred near Bhubaneswar/ Kolkata FIR Area on 4th August.
Flight details:
----------------------
Flight AI- 2379
Route - Phuket- Delhi.
Date: 04-08-26.
Time - 09:32 am IST.
Kolkata FIR region- upper Air space controller.
Landing time:-11:07 am at Delhi airport.
Total Soul's on board -145( 6 Cabin Crew 2 Pilot)
Injured- 17 (including 4 Cabin crew) Soul's
Hospitalized with Spine, Hand, cervical fracture/ injury.
After the incident it was initially attributed to Clear Air Turbulence incident.
As per Airline Social media Post even HMCA Sri mohan Naidu instantly visited the Fortis hospital to meet with Incident victims. He himself posted on X that Passanger Safety is Paramount & unfortunate incident of Turbulent weather.
As on 11-08-26 atleast 4 people are still in Hospital for recovery.
Now the actual story has emerged as per sources that aircraft had a Severe technical Malfunction related to multiple ( all 3) Hydraulic system failure warning, automatic nose high attitude of the Aircraft , Autopilot disconnected & Aircraft Stall Speed warning & Sudden Drop off Aircraft Nose abruptly , additional 9 other failures/ malfunction massage recorded all of a sudden within 60 seconds duration at Flight altitude 36000 feet. Which is a very rare behaviour of Airbus 320 Control system computers. Pilot may have initiated Stall recovery & other Standard procedure to recover the Aircraft from this situation got the control of the aircraft following by rapid lose of Altitude instantly during recovery reason which entire aircraft experienced Negetive G & immidiet injury of 17+ number people on board.
Later Aircraft descended to 28000 feet (below RVSM exclusive Airspace) for destinations to Delhi.
As per recommended practice during such emergency situations Pilots need to forward Stick for Nose down Pitch attitude gently to get out from the stall warning & regain the lost speed of that altitude with smooth Thrust management to arrest the secondary stall.Since High altitude Air is Thin( Air density is less) so Control surface movement should be gentle. Abrupt Stick forward will increase immediate negative G - impact. In this process Airplane may lose 3000 to 5000 feet altitude to recover from the stall speed. As reported that this flight lost altitude only 300 feet which is unusual in this phase.
The amount of Injury reported in such serious incidents looks like abrupt control stick movement to achieve Nose down negetive pitch attitude to overcome from stall warning.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation took the matter seriously & immediately an investigation committee has been set up by AAIB (Aircraft Accident investigation Board of India) as per ICAO Annexure -13 protocol related to aircraft serious incident.
The organisation will join the investigation as follows:
Air India Air Safety, DGCA Air safety department, French BEA (Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety in France), Airbus manufacturer to do the Data analysis of the technical cause of such unexpected multiple failures followed by Pilot action, Procedure. Why Failed to do Standard exercises of PAN PAN, MAY DAY, NITS briefing, standard Pax announcement etc as per SSOP of Air India under the protocol of CAR Section -7 of DGCA & Annexure -6 Part -1 of ICAO.
As widely circulated Videos / Audio which will be investigated too whereas Cabin crew already announced that " this is an emergency wear your seat belt " after that what could be the possible reason behind when Commander has come out from Cockpit and done such a bizarre non standard interactive type passenger announcement in the Aircraft Cabin for the injured & anxious passengers as I quote " Ismey hamari galti nehi hey , koi Photo mat lena, circulate mat karna from the humanitarian ground, bat ka batangarh ban jayega " etc to bear the pain for 40 more minutes so they will manage best possible sequence of quick landing to Delhi to avail best medical treatment instead of emergency landing nearby Airport on the Flight track like Bhubaneswar/ Varanasi / Lakhnow etc by declaring PAN PAN or MAY DAY as per the situational circumstances. Requesting anxious & injured passengers to avoid the photography and not to circulate to the public after landing on account of humanitarian ground etc etc is a Pilot exercise of self distraction & high probability of losing situational awareness from primary duty of Pilots Aviate ( Fly & monitor the flight path & technical status of the aircraft), Navigate (track , Position, weather monitoring, stay ahead of aircraft behaviour etc) . Commuinicate( ATC , Company , Cabin Crew, Latest weather of suitable alternate etc).
Above activities of a Pilot after the inflight technical failure incident are serious Safety Compromised.
Also needs a thorough investigation Pilot was scared about whome? Is there any systematic pressure from the airline management on Crew during such crisis to suppress the fact? Why Pilot was so eager to go to Delhi only? Has he received such a final decision via ACARS Centralize Operation from the ground control to continue the flight to Delhi only ?
Such a serious Incident got the attention of flight travellers, Aviation Regulators, Aircraft owners & Aircraft manufacturers, Airplane Engineers around the world.
Aircraft DFDR, Cockpit Voice Recorder, ACARS (Aircraft communication addressing & Reporting System), ATC communication DATA related to these incidents has been preserved.
Commander Pilot of this flight has to go through a compulsory drug test two time on arrival from International Flight where result 2nd time found Positive dated 11-08-26 as mentioned in the media content found as Marijuana( Ganja) psychoactive narcotics drug test Positive
Conclusion statement:-
As the Indian Aviation market is growing rapidly and Passanger is preferring high cost Air travel only due to the trust of safety and faster reaching to destinations.
It is a primary duty of regulatory agency to keep passengers trust of Air Safety in highest priority & confidence in optimum by ensuring Rules & Regulations are followed by all stakeholders as per Civil Aviation requirement of India & ICAO standards. Advisory to all passanger whenever travel by air make sure everyone kept their seat belt always fasten. You may keep it loose but do not release your seat belt at all for your own safety only irrespective of Seat belt Sign go off in the flight.
