Tripurainfo.com Mega Quiz 2025 - Two Decades of Knowledge, Friendship, and Vision

Sometime
in 2005-06, during one of my routine visits to the Tripurainfo.com office, I
first heard Jayanta Debnath, Sekhar Dutta, and Manas discussing the idea of
organizing a state-level programme. They wanted to extend their existing work
of running a news portal for Tripura into something that could
offer people with opportunity to network and promote
knowledge sharing and bring people together under a platform where minds could
meet and grow.
This
was the period when Tripura was emerging from nearly three decades of
insurgency and uncertainty. The state needed new avenues to channel the talent
and energy of its youth toward constructive and meaningful engagement, away
from divisive ideologies.
Those
days Tripurainfo office at Post office Chowhmoni used to be baithak for not
just medley crowd of young and not so young journalists but also intellectuals
from varied professional fields. Doctors, university and college professors, occasional
Vice Chancellor, PR professionals, or senior bureaucrats too could be seen
there. The air was always thick with conversation, ideas, and optimism.
When
the team finally decided to organize a statewide quiz competition,
they faced two fundamental challenges. First, with the rising popularity of the
internet and mobile phones, it was uncertain whether a physical quiz
event would attract young participants. Second, they lacked both the experience
and resources to conduct an event of that scale.
However,
it was here that the indomitable spirit of Jayanta Debnath, with
his clear vision and unwavering positivity, tipped the balance in favour of
action. Thus was born the All Tripura Tripurainfo.com Mega Quiz, an
idea that has since grown into one of the most anticipated intellectual events
in the state.
Two
decades later, today, the results of that early spark of vision are there for
all to see. The Tripurainfo.com Mega Quiz has not only sustained but
flourished, disproving the initial doubts about its relevance among youth and
consistently setting new standards of organization and participation.
This
year’s Mega Quiz , the 20th anniversary edition, was nothing short of
phenomenal. As many speakers on and off stage observed and shared. It broke all
previous records in terms of participation, energy, and scale. The event, held
at Rabindra Bhavan, Agartala, was filled to capacity, with the
crowd overflowing even in the city’s largest convention venue.
Chief
Minister Dr. Manik Saha, along with former Chief Minister, several
ministers, and senior bureaucrats, graced the occasion. From the dais, the
Chief Minister rightly observed that after achieving such resounding success
within Tripura, it is perhaps time to take this event beyond state
borders as a model of youth engagement through knowledge and
creativity.
What
stood out this year was the remarkable professionalism in organization and the
quality of quizzing. The performances of quizmasters Abhijit and Nandu
Panicker were at par with the finest quiz masters we’ve seen on
national and international platforms. Even the youngest quiz master,
little Mahi, impressed the audience with her quick wit and
sparkling intellect, a testament to the nurturing environment and culture of
curiosity the event promotes.
For
me, the Tripurainfo.com Mega Quiz 2025 was not just an event but it was an
experience. I sat through its almost 11-hour marathon from
9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and for me it was far more engaging and informative than
any OTT binge we allow ourselves these days. Congratulations to the entire
team, especially to Jayanta Debnath, whose consistency, leadership,
and heart continue to inspire everyone around him.
Over
the past two decades, I have been invited several times to attend the Mega
Quiz, and each time I’ve witnessed a deeper level of enthusiasm among Tripura’s
youth. In an era where we often associate young people with shortform content
like reels or social media, it is both refreshing and reassuring to see
hundreds of them throng a hall for a full day of intellectual physical engagement.
My
association with Tripura lasted only about three years, during my tenure
as regional PR Head of ONGC in Agartala during 2005-08. However,
those were years of deep personal connection. What began as professional
interaction with journalists like Jayanta, Sekhar, Manas, Sanjib, Sujeet,
Sajjad, Pranab, and Prabir and others soon evolved into lasting friendships and
an enriching intellectual camaraderie that continues to this day.
Jayanta
Debnath, apart from being a consummate media professional,
possessesthe ability to nurture personal relationships with sincerity and
strength, a rare quality. There’s much to learn from his spirit of maintaining
bonds and building communities. It is perhaps this quality, as much as his
professional dedication, that forms the foundation of his success - and of the
enduring legacy of the Tripurainfo.com Mega Quiz.
